Workmanship

Pinched Manufactured

HANWAG footwear is last constructed, i.e. the shaft is worked over the insole. This is a traditional, very complex manufacturing process, which involves a great deal of manual work. Yet, it is definitely worth the time and effort, as it provides the footwear with excellent stability
and ensures a long lasting great fit.

Also, all shoes can be easily resoled – a fact that is of particular relevance for durable boots with a great fit!

All HANWAG footwear requires very experienced and highly skilled craftsmanship – and HANWAG, with its 85 years of experience, is renowned just for that!

Legendary Fit

Perfect fit is the most important criteria for outdoor footwear. If not, touring quickly turns into torturing…

That is why we at HANWAG dedicate our efforts to create the perfect since the inception of the company 85 years ago. Many confirm: HANWAG’s fit is legendary good. The reasons: Experience, perfection as craftsmen, the German strive after quality, best materials and manufacturing technology.

All HANWAG footwear is built with specially optimized lasts according to the intended outdoor activity and the sex. Almost every model is available as men’s and women’s. Men with very narrow feet should try the women’s version (available up to size 9). On request, HANWAG can manufacture pairs with different sizes left and right.

Technologies

Air-Pulse-System

Chromium Free Leather

Click-Clamp

These special jamming eyelets allow a 2-zone lacing. The boot can be laced independently on the fore- and mid-foot, and around the ankle and shinbone.

Deep-Pull-Lacing

Special clamps on the side effectively hold the foot in place and ensure ideal ankle support. It helps preventing twisted ankles or blisters (better heel fit).

Double Stitched

Traditional workmanship, meaning that the upper and sole unit are connected by seams.

Elevated Brim

A hand-mounted rubber surrounding the lower part of the upper protects the leather in scree and rocks, highly increasing durability of the entire boot.

Ergo Heel Box

Internal reinforcement of the heel. HANWAG uses a very complex three-dimensionally anatomic heel box, contributing tremenduously to the great fit.

Ghilly-Lacing

Flexible instep lacing with loops. Allows tight fit, yet guarantees freedom of movement.

Heel-Fix

The riveted aluminium-plate can be bent (or also unbent) by hand to the ideal width.

Insulated

Additional insulation integrated in the shaft and the sole unit.

Lambwool

Leather Lining

Extremely comfortable to wear with quick moisture absorption and natural comfort.

Lightweight

Special lightweight construction of upper and sole-unit. 100 grams less on your shoes equal 1 kg less in your pack.

LockLoop

Simple but effective lace-clamping device, allows two-section lacing: When pulled the laces are pinched and adjust the lacing along the instep. The LockLoop ensures perfect fit. Ideal for lightweight footwear which can do without special clamp hooks but still provide tight lacing.

Reduced Seams

Less seams mean less abrasion on seams and prevent bruises. Most difficult and expensive way of manufacturing the upper.

shock Absorb

Additional shock absorption under heel. Footwear with stiff, hence hard, soles in particular require this great cushioning.

Step-In Crampon

Fully crampon compatible sole construction. Suitable for step-in crampons (front bracket and heel clip) for mountaineeringand ice climbing

Strap-On Crampon

Crampon compatible sole construction, suitable for strap-on crampons (without front bracket) – ideal for all general mountaineering activities: easy climbs, ice climbing and glacier travels.

Vari-Volume

Allows the adaptation of the volume with an exchangeable inner tongue and a second set of insoles allowing a further adaptation of volume.

WarmthPlus Layer

An insulating layer added to the insole, highly recommendable at low temperatures.

Yak-Leder

ak leather: Exceptionally soft, yet hard-wearing and naturally coarse-grained leather. We use only robust, hydrophobic Tibetian Yak leather of 2,2 to 2,6 millimeters, which comes exclusively from the Lhasa Leather Factory.
